MIFFLINTOWN - Cake Decorating Contest and Auction, Children's Games and a selection of Hispanic foods for sale have been added to the summer kick-off festival at St. Jude Catholic Church in Mifflintown.
The Second Annual Summer Celebration will take place from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, June 22, with food and fun for the whole family.
The event will start with an All You Can Eat Breakfast from 7 to 10 a.m., featuring pancakes, scrambled eggs, sausage, juice, coffee and tea for $6 for ages 13 and up, $3 for ages 4 to 12, and 3 and under, free. Tickets will be available at the door.
Enter the new Cake/Cupcake Decorating Contest and Auction for a chance to win a baking-themed gift basket. Creations will be judged on originality, creativity and execution, and there will be winners in the Children's Division (10 and under) and Adult Division. The decorated cakes/cupcakes should be presented for entry on a non-returnable plate between 7 and 10:30 a.m. in the social hall at the church. Winners will be announced after the Basket Raffle, which will begin at 11 a.m. After the winners are announced, all entries will be auctioned.
Another new feature this year will be a variety of games for children.
More than 30 themed gift baskets filled with a wide variety items for people of all ages will be up for grabs at the Basket Raffle. Buy tickets for $1 each (or six for $5) and "bid" on your favorite baskets with your tickets. Drawings for the winning tickets will begin at 11 a.m. (need not be present to win). Baskets will be on display and tickets will be available for purchase beginning at 7 a.m., when the pancake breakfast begins.
There will also be a Gas Card Raffle, with a grand prize of a $100 gas card, as well as two $50 gas cards (need not be present to win).Tickets are $2, or three for $5. Tickets will be available when the doors open at 7 a.m.
Finish the day with barbecued chicken, with pickup between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. at the church. Call 436-9390 to order tickets at $4 per half. There will be a very limited number of extras at pickup.
New this year will be a selection of homemade Hispanic foods in the chicken pick up area.
All proceeds will benefit St. Jude Catholic Church, which is located on the William Penn Highway, across from Tuscarora Junior High School in Mifflintown.
