THOMPSONTOWN - Elsie S. Smoker, 94, formerly of McAlisterville, went to be with the Lord on Monday, May 27, 2013, in Thompsontown, at the home of Wilmer and Rosanne Smoker, with whom she lived.
Born Oct. 27, 1918, in Lancaster County , she was a daughter of the late Elmer and Emma (Stauffer) Herr.
She was a member of Delaware Mennonite Church, Thompsontown, where she also attended Sunday school. Elsie loved being with her family and enjoyed reading, flower gardening, sewing and playing games.
She became the widow of Norman G. Smoker, her husband of 63 years, in 2012.
Surviving are: two sons, Dale Smoker and wife, Joan, of Elliottsburg, and Wilmer "Bill" Smoker and wife, Rosanne, of Thompsontown; a daughter, Marlene Dum and husband, Richard, of Loysville; a sister, Mabel Hershey of Lititz; five grandchildren, Jordy and Jeni Smoker, Kristen Johns, Erin Ream and Stuart Dum; and five great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, Elsie was preceded in death by four sisters, Kathryn Coulter, Edna Gamber, Dorothy Risser and Pauline Denlinger and one brother, Walter Herr.
A service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, May 31, 2013, at Delaware Mennonite Church, 16 Delaware Road, Thompsontown, with the Rev. Glenn Hosler officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
A viewing will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday, at the church.
