McVEYTOWN-James O. Rittenhouse Sr., 88, of Ferguson Valley Road., McVeytown, died at 9:12 a.m. Monday, May 27, 2013, at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville.
Born April 28, 1925, in Bratton Township, he was a son of the late Harry E. and Sylvia E. (Rebman) Rittenhouse Sr. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy M. (Wharton) Rittenhouse, whom he married June 26, 1954.
Also surviving are: four children, Dwight O. Rittenhouse and wife, Janice, of McVeytown, Cindy L. Wilson and husband, Herb, of McVeytown, Brenda J. Deavor and husband, Gerald, of McVeytown, and James O. Rittenhouse Jr., and wife, Linda, of Reedsville; three siblings, Mary M. Maxwell, of Mattawana, Hazel F. Fisher and husband, Max, of Lewistown, Charles L. Rittenhouse and wife, Anna Mary, of Lewistown; 11 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by nine siblings: Ruth E. Ronk, Zana L. Hesser, Harry E. Rittenhouse Jr., Paul M. Rittenhouse, Esther M. Grassmyer, Helen J. Espigh, Gladys R. Bartlett, Thelma A. Rittenhouse and Virginia R. Harshbarger.
He retired from Ford New Holland, in Belleville, and had previously worked for Pennsylvania Glass Sand, in McVeytown.
James was a member of the Atkinson Mills United Methodist Church, Mount Union Lodge #688 F&AM and the Newton Wayne Volunteer Fire Co.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 30, 2013, at Harshbarger Funeral Home, 3 S. Market St., McVeytown, with Pastor Brian Myfelt officiating. Interment will be in Juniata Memorial Park, Lewistown.
Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, at the funeral home.
