LEWISTOWN - You are a new creation.
This is the ultimate message young adults will hear during the "New Reflection" youth rally set to be held from 6-9 p.m. May 19 at Pine Glen CMA Church in Lewistown.
"Whatever you come from, whatever you're into. Once you're saved by Christ, you are a new creation ... not what your past holds," said Ryan French, band member of knoWMercy.
Band member Ryan French, of knoWMercy, leads worship at the 2012 youth rally hosted by Pine Glen CMA Church.
The band will be performing contemporary praise and worship music during the event, which is focused on bringing youth together in their faith.
When students walk down the halls of their schools, the person in front of them may be involved in a youth group in Belleville, and the person behind them may be in a group from Lewistown, but they may never know it, he said. The rally is a way to connect young adults and give them a place to hang out together.
The first rally, held last year at Pine Glen, was an overwhelming success, he said, and the church wanted to do it again. Approximately 200 kids from the area came together for "Wherever You Go," an event inspired by Joshua 1:9.
This year, the rally will focus on 2 Corinthians 5:17 which states, "Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come. The old has gone, the new is here!" (NIV)
The event is open to any local youth, even those who are not involved with a youth group. French said the night will begin with a performance by knoWMercy, including band members Jason Yoder, Bryan Krepps, Brandon Matthews and Brett Baumgardner. Then James Connolly, youth pastor at Pine Glen, will deliver a message before youth head to the Fellowship Life Center for food, games, giveaways and music by High Voltage Entertainment. The event is being held free of cost to area youth.
French thanked the individuals and businesses who are sponsoring the event, adding that "the list is tremendously long."
