Joseph M. Forney

PORT ROYAL - Joseph M. Forney, 80, of Port Royal, died at 4:40 p.m. Saturday, April 27, 2013, at the Lewistown Hospital.

Born on Sept. 3, 1932, in Thompsontown, Juniata County, he was a son of the late Harry M. and Edna K. (Cox) Forney. On Nov. 8, 1953, he married his surviving wife, Patricia (Bashore) Forney, with whom he spent more than 59 years of marriage.

Surviving are: a son, Edward J. Forney and his wife, Cheryl, of Hedgesville, W.Va.; a brother, Paul C. Forney and his wife, Linda, of Akron, Ohio; a sister, Dolores Khalkhali, of Pauley's Island, S.C.; and he leaves behind a granddaughter, Sara Forney, of Hedgesville, W.Va.

One infant brother, Delby G. Forney, and one sister, Kathleen Louise Hubbert, preceded him in death.

Joe was a 1949 graduate of the Thompsontown High School, also he graduated from the Hiram College, Hiram, Ohio, and the Goodyear Tire and Rubber, Co. Apprentice School, Akron, Ohio.

He was a U.S. Army veteran, where he taught ordnance guided missile at Redstone Arsenal, Huntsville, Ala.

Mr. Forney was employed for forty years as a senior developmental engineer by the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company, Akron, Ohio. Upon his retirement from Goodyear, he worked for Kumho Tire Co. After retiring from Kumho he returned to Juniata County to enjoy hunting and traveling.

His memberships included the Messiah Lutheran Church, Mifflintown, Union Lodge No. 324 F.& A.M., Mifflintown, Juniata Business and Industry, a honorary member of the Mifflintown Rotary, where he was a Paul Harris Fellow.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 4, 2013, at the Messiah Lutheran Church, Mifflintown, with the Rev. William N. Esborn officiating. Burial will be private.

There will be no viewing.

The family will provide all funeral flowers and kindly request that memorial contributions are made in Mr. Forney's memory to the Messiah Lutheran Church, 3 S. Third St., Mifflintown, PA 17059.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Brown Funeral Homes Inc., 100 Bridge St., Mifflintown.
