LEWISTOWN - The Lewistown Borough Council adopted Ordinance 2013-2, by a 4-0 margin at its regular Monday meeting, which which will increase parking ticket fines from $5 to $15 for overnight and street sweeper violations and allows a seven-day period from the issuance of the ticket for it to be paid.
Council members John Adams, Matt Moore and Gregg O'Donnell were not at the Monday night meeting.
The council approved Resolution 2013-8 which is a revision of the Community Development Block Grant program funding to revise the equipment to be purchased by the Mifflin Juniata Dental Clinic, by a vote of 4-0.
In other business, the council:
Announced regular street sweeping will be reinstated on Monday which marks the return of all parking restrictions that are associated with street sweeping and the increased fines for violations.
Acknowledged the receipts of the audits for the H2O PA Grant Contract and the Fireman's Relief Association Planning Committee.
Appointed Mayor Deb Bargo as a second representative to the Hazard Mitigation Planning Committee. Her addition to the committee created a larger discount to the residents' flood insurance.
Authorized the submission of an application for the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board Grant to Reduce Underage and Dangerous Drinking. The appropriate officers were needed to sign the grant application.
Approved the starting rate of $17.50 per hour for a new part-time police officer.
Authorized the purchase of a vehicle for the streets department for $10,200 or less.
Lewistown Borough Council normally meets at 5:30 p.m. on the second and fourth Mondays of each month at the Lewistown Municipal Building on East Third Street.
