McCLURE - Katherine M. Spaid, 96, of Back Mountain Road, passed away at 10:03 p.m. Thursday, March 14, 2013, at the Manor at Penn Village, in Selinsgrove.
She was born on Nov. 12, 1916, in Millmont, a daughter of the late James F. and Mabel (Snook) Fenten. On Aug. 31, 1940, she married James "Jim" Spaid, who preceded her in death on July 10, 1980.
Mrs. Spaid attended school in Hartleton.
Katherine was previously employed at the Laurelton State Village and the Selinsgrove Center as an aid, and later worked as a waitress at the Lewisburg Hotel and Snook's Restaurant and also was a Stanley Home Products dealer.
She was a member of St. Paul's Reformed Church, in Beavertown, where she also taught Sunday school.
Katherine enjoyed knitting, playing Bingo, going out to eat and was well known for her Saturday morning cinnamon rolls and homemade bread.
Earlier in life, she also enjoyed traveling to Florida with her husband during the winter months.
Surviving are: one son, J. Dan Spaid and wife, Barb, of Smithsburg, Md.; two daughters, Judy K. Goss and husband, Ralph, of McClure, and Dixie L. Seler and husband, Terry, of San Antonio, Texas; three sisters, Helen Ritter, of Sunbury, June Boop, of Lewisburg, and Mae Free, of Harrisburg; grandchildren, Warren Spaid, Christopher Spaid, Michelle Mong, Ginger Galliher, Jim Goss, Ray Raymos, Lynn "Bud" Baker Jr., Craig Baker, and Jamie Linthicum; stepgrandchildren, Rodney Furgison, Dawn Furlong, David Seler, Barbara Seler, Christiana Smith, Alexis Smith, Shandi Linthicum and Axel Linthicum; great- grandchildren, Allyson Spaid, Gabriella Spaid, Erika Mong, Aaron Mong, Laura Galliher, Kaitlyn Galliher, Morgan Goss, Paige Goss, Lily Goss, Wyatt Mellott, Dustin Baker and Evan Linthicum; and great-great- grandchildren, Rex, Mack, James, Severin and Malakai.
In addition to her husband, Katherine was preceded in death by two brothers, Samuel Hackenburg, and Nevin Hackenburg and one sister, Arla Snyder.
Friends and family will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, and from 11 a.m. to noon, Wednesday, at the Pheasant Funeral Home, 316 W. Market St., Beavertown. The funeral will be held at noon Wednesday, at the funeral home, with the Rev. Carl Bergerson officiating.
Burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery, in Beavertown.
