LEWISTOWN - What began as a dream 25 years ago has finally become a reality as Sandy and Bob Narehood open the doors of Pin Oaks Craft Barn, in Lewistown, for business.
"We've always had the dream of opening a craft store together after we retired," Bob said. "It has finally happened and we couldnt be more excited."
The new business, specializing in handmade furniture and Primitive decorations, has been in the making for 20 years, since Bob began building the small barn by hand. The barn was finished in late 2012 and the couple opened the store with a small stock for the Christmas season.
Sandy Narehood, owner of Pin Oaks Country Barn in Lewistown, shows some of the primitive and handmade items available at the new store.
"Everything was finished earlier than planned and we wanted to get started," Sandy said. "I thought we did really well over Christmas considering we had just opened and hadnt done any advertising."
Bob makes all the handmade furniture featured in the store, including shelves, cupboards, cabinets, wardrobes and chairs. He also accepts special orders.
"I've been working with wood since I was a teenager," Bob said. "Almost all our furniture is sold out and I'm about to start another round. At this point, I can make about anything a customer may want."
Pin Oaks Craft Barn also has handmade jewelery and quilts, created by members of the family, for sale as well as candles and rugs.
When the weather gets warmer, the couple plans to organize an outdoor display with garden accessories and handmade birdhouses, Bob said.
"We've been waiting a long time to open our own store," Bob said. "We're such a good team and we work really well together. I think this will be a great experience."
