Says it’s high time for ‘reasonable auto control’

February 2, 2013
Lewistown Sentinel

To the editor:

I think it's time we enact reasonable automobile control. Why in the world would anybody need a car or, heaven forbid, a truck or a SUV, with more than, say, 70 horsepower?

The founders of this country had horses and buggies and they got around just fine. They never envisioned internal combustion engines spewing dirt into the air for our children to breathe.

How many people are killed every year in auto accidents? I don't know, but I do know if we reduce the power of these evil vehicles, we'll save lives. If we save even one life, it will be worth it.

So, if you're with me on this, I would like to see a grass-roots effort to ban high-horsepower vehicles. We could start with a buy-back program. Folks could take their gas-hogs to a government funded location, where hard-working, pleasant government officials would take these awful machines away and scrap them. Then, in a few years, we could reduce horsepower to like 35, or something. Do your part, people. Remember, it's not about you; it's about the greater good.

Of course, our dear leaders' limousines would have to be exempt from this awesome law. After all, they are way more important than we are. They're so nice, and they care about us so much!
