REEDSVILLE - What began as a family hobby has become a family business with the opening of Corner Shop Flowers & Gifts in Reedsville. Beth Corson, two of her daughters, Ashely Newman and Lauren Reed, and a close cousin, Carlyn Mohr, have turned their love for crafting and flowers into a one-stop-shop for gifts and floral arrangements.
"We've been pretty active in the craft world for a number of years and had been talking about opening a store," Corson said. "We always wanted to have a family business where we could sell the beautiful things we find at craft shows."
When the previous JAE Designs location on Main Street went up for sale, it was too good of an opportunity to pass up, Reed said. The location was excellent, the price was right and it came with a floral designer that was already related, she added.

Mohr, the mentioned floral designer, has been working with flowers for more than 25 years and agreed to stay on when her family purchased the store.
"We pretty much cover every holiday or event that someone would need flowers for," Mohr said. "We try to personalize each arrangement and bouquet as much as possible."
In preparation for Valentine's Day, Mohr has designed three specific specials that incorporate candy, a teddy bear and roses. She is also looking forward to the special requests that usually come in during the holiday, she added.
"Each year I get some creative requests that are really inspirational," Mohr said. "We've incorporated all kinds of things into bouquets like fishing rods or golf clubs."
The gift section of the store includes Primitive goods, locally crafted items, home decorations and handmade furniture pieces, Newman said. Each of the items for sale are handpicked to match the diverse tastes in the community, she said.
"We have several handmade products in the store that were created by community artisans," Newman said. "So far we have locally made scarves and jewelry, but we're planning to expand that selection. The idea is to have things from the community for the community."
