To the editor:
My Christmas present came the day after Christmas. God blesses us every day to wake up, but on Dec. 26, being able to breathe was given to me by way of the Heimlich maneuver. I was shopping at Walmart with my friend, Debbie Pennington. In a moments' flash a piece of candy slipped down my throat and I couldn't breathe.
I don't remember very much, but my friend told me she screamed for help. Many people came to my rescue, but one person, my hero, who on this day gave me, along with the man upstairs, the gift of breath, Joe Alexander, of Milroy. I want to thank you so, so much for being there at that particular time, and reaching out with no hesitation, to save my life. You are truly my hero. There is nothing I can say or do to let you know how greatly you are appreciated and loved for helping me remain on this earth. I also want to thank the off duty paramedic and all those who helped me. I have a non-operable brain tumor, which I've had 3 surgeries for. This with the help of Joe and my friend Debbie, I've overcome another battle to remain here on earth. Thank you and God bless.
