LEWISTOWN - Proud parents Jessie and Kane Amspacker were finally able to bring baby Layla Adele Amspacker, the first baby born at Lewistown Hospital in 2013, home Monday afternoon.

Layla was born at 10:22 p.m. on Jan. 1, at 6 pounds and 11 ounces, and 22 1/3 inches long, at Lewistown Hospital. This is the couple's first child.

"It was such a life changing experience," Kane Amspacker said. "I didn't even care about the whole New Year thing. I was just excited to have a baby."

However, the new father said, it was certainly a race to the finish as Layla was born not 20 minutes before the couple's roommate gave birth.

Shortly after Layla's birth, she was diagnosed with infant pneumonia and immediately transferred to Geisinger Medical Center in Danville, Amspacker said.

"Thankfully, she got through everything really well and was even eating before the doctors thought she would," Amspacker said. "She's a real fighter."

Layla remained at Danville until Monday when she was discharged and brought home.

The family will receive a car seat from Lewistown Hospital in honor of having the first baby of 2013. They will also receive other gifts from various businesses in the area.
