BELLEVILLE - Alvin M. Hostetler, 87, of 210 Second St., Apt. 18, Belleville, died at 11:15 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 5, 2013, at Lewistown Hospital.
Born March 31, 1925, in Belleville, he was a son of the late Noah D. and Mattie (King) Hostetler. His wife, Ruth Ann (Yoder) Hostetler, whom he married on Jan. 13, 1962, survives at their home.
Alvin is also survived by: children, Barbara Byler, of New Tripoli, Clarence Hostetler, of Belleville, Walter Hostetler and wife, Kathy, of Belleville, and Joyce Hostetler and companion, Curtis Peachey, of Mount Joy; siblings, Sollie Hostetler and wife, Anna, of Belleville, and Elam Hostetler of McVeytown; grandchildren, Mikaela Byler, Bradford Byler, Lance Hostetler, Sarah Peachey, and Lexi Peachey; and one great-grandson, Joshua Solliday.
He was preceded in death by: sisters, Ada Hostetler, Lizzie Kauffman, Sadie Hostetler and Nancy Hostetler; brother, Ben Hostetler; and a grandson, Neal Byler.
Alvin retired in 1963 as a dairy farmer. After his retirement he became the livestock manager at the Belleville sale barn and with Kish Valley Dairy Sales. He was a member of Locust Grove Mennonite Church. He enjoyed spending time with his family especially his grandchildren. He also enjoyed spending time at Big Valley Feed and Grain. Alvin was a handyman.
A memorial service will be held in his memory at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan 9, 2013, at Locust Grove Mennonite Church, Belleville, with Pastors Max Zook and Ivan Yoder officiating. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family at Locust Grove Cemetery. His family will receive friends on Tuesday, Jan. 8, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the church.
