McALISTERVILLE- Ruth A. Smith, 95, of McAlisterville passed from this life at 9:50 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 11, 2012. She is more alive than ever, as she joyfully stands in the presence of her Savior and Lord, Jesus Christ.

She is and always will be greatly missed by her family and friends but we rejoice that she is forever at home with Jesus her Savior whom she so loved.

Born on Aug. 1, 1917, in East Salem, Juniata County, Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of the late J. Emery and Cora (Leach) Hockenbrock. Her husband, Glenn E. Smith, whom she married on Nov. 1, 1936, preceded her in death on May 24, 1993.

She is survived by: two daughters, Janice Mathews and husband, Mathew, of Pittsburgh, and Carole Ann Dotter and husband, Theodore, of Cranberry Township; six grandchildren, Richard Mathews, Scott Mathews, Terry Mathews, Jennifer (Dotter) Craft, Tracy (Dotter) Godfrey and Eric Dotter; 10 great-grandchildren, Benjamin Mathews, Peter Mathews, Steven Mathews, Elizabeth Mathews, Trevor Mathews, Austin Mathews, Theodore James Craft, Morgan Craft, David Craft and Joshua Baum.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Clarence Hockenbrock and Gordon "Hockey" Hockenbrock.

She was a 1935 graduate of Fayette High School, McAlisterville.

She was a member of Faith Community Church, McAlisterville, where she was loved by all of those who knew her.

Ruth was a homemaker, totally dedicated to caring for her family. She was active in the Blain Community where she and her late husband called their home for 40 years, from 1949 to 1989. She was truly a "helpmate" to her husband, as she worked alongside of him in their business, Smith's Self Service Store. She was a member of the Blain United Church of Christ and served in various positions of leadership such as the Women's Guild. She was also a member and active leader of the Blain Firemen's Women's Auxiliary.

Ruth could always be found serving in the "ministry of helps," willing to serve wherever there was a need. She continued to serve in whatever area she could to help others and was an inspiration to her family, friends and all of those blessed to know her, throughout her entire life.

Her family will receive family and friends for the viewing from 1 p.m. until the time of the service Friday, Dec. 21, 2012, at East Salem United Methodist Church with Pastor David Barr officiating.

The interment will follow in Goodwill Cemetery.

The Brown Funeral Homes Inc., 111 Westfall St., McAlisterville, has been entrusted with the arrangements.

The family requests that memorial contributions in Mrs. Smith's memory be made to Gideon's International Juniata Camp, P.O. Box 91, Mifflintown, PA 17059.
