A discussion with a Democratic friend

December 14, 2012
Lewistown Sentinel

To the editor:

I saw my Democrat friend the other day. "How did you like the election?" he asked.

"Not much," I said.

"Well, it was a victory for working men and women."

I looked at him. "You know, you people shouldn't call yourselves the Democratic Party. You should call yourselves the New Year's Eve Party. You love all these government handouts, but when the waiter comes with the bill, you just say, 'Put it on my tab.' Then, after midnight, when the party's over and the bills have to be paid, you tell the waiter that those rich guys at the next table will pay your tab - which shows you've had too much to drink."

"Wait a minute," he answered, "don't get mad. Those guys can afford it and I think that would be social justice."

"I'm not mad at you," I said, "I just feel sorry for you."

"Sorry for me? For what?"

"You just don't get it, do you?"

"Get what?"

"Never mind."
