LEWISTOWN - Kenneth D. Swartzell, 88, of Dry Valley Road, Lewistown, died on Saturday, Dec. 8, 2012, at Geisinger Medical Center, in Danville.
Born Nov. 26, 1924, in Milroy, he was a son of the late Charles B. and Mary (Sigler) Swartzell.
He is survived by his wife, Alma R. Aurand Swartzell, whom he married May 9, 1954.

Also surviving are: his sons, Scott Swartzell, of Connecticut, and Steven Swartzell and his wife, Carol, of Lewistown; three grandchildren, William, Benjamin and Rebecca; one nephew; one niece; four great-nephews; one great-great-niece; and three great-great-nephews.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Robert Swartzell, but Robert's wife, Mary Swartzell, of Belleville, survives.
He was a graduate of the former Yeagertown High School.
Kenneth was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, having served in World War II.
Kenneth retired in 1986 from the Lewistown Trust Company after 34 years of employment. He joined the bank in 1952 as a teller, and then advanced to note teller and was elected treasurer of the bank in 1957. From there, he was elected in 1968 as vice president and treasurer of the bank, and continued in that position until his retirement. During his banking career, Swartzell attended the Pennsylvania Bankers Association summer school at Pennsylvania State University and Bucknell University. In addition to attending the PBA school, he attended the Stonier Graduate School of Banking at Rutgers University, New Brunswick, N.J. From 1970 to 1971 he served on the executive committee of the PBA Group V.
He was past treasurer and past membership chairman of Lewistown Rotary Club, served for 10 years as treasurer of the Juniata Valley Area Chamber of Commerce, was an executive committee member and former treasurer of the Lewistown Motor Club, was a life member and presented a life membership for services rendered and was past district commander of Post 287, Milroy American Legion, was post commander and national aide of Post 5935, Veterans of Foreign Wars and was past president of the Mifflin County Veterans Council.
He also was a member of Holy Communion Lutheran Church, Yeagertown, a life member of the Yeagertown Fire Co. and City Hook and Ladder, a member of United Commercial Travelers, Mifflin County Historical Society, Newtown Fire Co. Ambulance Club, served on the Mifflin County Youth Park board of directors, was a member of the executive committee of the Mifflin County Round Table of Christians and Jews and was an honorary chapter farmer of Future Farmers of America.
A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 15, 2012, at the Holy Communion Lutheran Church, in Yeagertown, with Pastor Philip Tundel officiating. Interment will be held in Church Hill Cemetery, Reedsville. Graveside military services will be provided by VFW Post 7011.
A viewing will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 14, 2012, at Barr Funeral Home Inc., 120 Logan St., Lewistown.
