Local United Way now more than halfway to fundraising goal

December 8, 2012
From staff reports , Lewistown Sentinel

LEWISTOWN - The United Way of Mifflin-Juniata has reached $332,270 toward its goal of $600,000 during the campaign that began on Sept. 19 and runs until March 15, 2013.

The LUMINA Center is one of the agencies that benefits from working with the United Way. Director Deb Wilt explains how partnering with the United Way has served the LUMINA Center:

"The LUMINA Center provides a safe, clean and well supervised atmosphere in which children and youth may interact with their peers and experience educational, enriching and fun-filled activities. The United Way funding enables the Lumina Center to provide these free activities to any child or youth in Mifflin County.

"The United Way sponsorship of the Summer Food Service Program also allows the center to serve nutritious snacks and meals to children throughout the activities that occur during the summer months, which is crucial to the well-being of the children and ultimately the community"

Wilt said United Way of Mifflin-Juniata is about more than funding - it's a source of help and resources vital to, not only the survival of the community, but the thriving atmosphere the organization strives to create.
