Offers an explanation for ‘heartfelt opinions’

December 7, 2012
Lewistown Sentinel

To the editor:

In reading Mr. Jon Mertz's letter of Nov. 30, among many of his comments, "I genuinely wish to understand the thought processes involved in arriving at these obviously heartfelt opinions" stands out. Our program's thought process is based on our mission statement of:

"Citizens Concerned for Human Life Mifflin Juniata Inc. is committed to promoting the dignity and value of human life from conception to natural death and to restoring legal protection for preborn children. Through legislation, political action, education and other legal means, we proclaim the truth about abortion, infanticide, and euthanasia."

The other statement of, "...their faith-based opposition to President Obama..." is solely based on his support of abortion. As scripture states. "But because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold, not hot, I will begin to vomit thee out of my mouth." Obama goes beyond lukewarm in his supporting abominations, that is, gay sex.

My personal opinion is that as Israel was chastised so will be the United States for their sin.

As in Hosea 10:10: "When I please, I will punish them; nations will be gathered against them to put them in bonds for their double sin."

An example of present times Mathew 24 states: "Watch out that no one deceives you. For many will come in my name, claiming, 'I am the Messiah,' and will deceive many. You will hear of wars and rumors of wars, but see to it that you are not alarmed. Such things must happen, but the end is still to come. Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be famines and earthquakes in various places. All these are the beginning of birth pains.

"Then you will be handed over to be persecuted and put to death, and you will be hated by all nations because of me. At that time many will turn away from the faith and will betray and hate each other, and many false prophets will appear and deceive many people. Because of the increase of wickedness, the love of most will grow cold, but the one who stands firm to the end will be saved. And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come."

Mr. Mertz offers a well-written article but I believe it has much conjecture and I find it difficult to understand what his beliefs are. I hope not luke warm?

I do invite him to our Lewistown Pro Life March on Jan. 20, 2013 at 1 p.m. at North Dorcas and Third streets. He can join us at the Hope Center as we pray for the unborn and for all of us to have wisdom.
