MIFFLINTOWN - The Juniata County Board of Commissioners on Tuesday approved a proclamation designating December 2012 as "United Way Month."

The United Way of Mifflin-Juniata has been serving the Juniata Valley for more than 75 years, the proclamation states. Throughout the year, the agency improves lives by mobilizing the power of the community to solve difficult problems and provide support for area residents.

The proclamation by the board was issued to heighten public awareness and encourage support of the current fundraising campaign, said Commissioner Jeffrey Zimmerman. The money raised will be used to fund projects throughout 2013 to benefit local children, families and seniors.
