Ernest R. ‘Ernie’ Byler

BELLEVILLE - Ernest R. "Ernie" Byler, 81, of 6343 state Route 655, Belleville, died at 12:01 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2012, at Geisinger Medical Center.

Born Dec. 15, 1930, in Allensville, he was a son of the late Thomas J. and Ada (Glick) Byler. He is survived by his wife, Sadie M. (Peachey) Byler, whom he married on Sept. 27, 1952.

Surviving are: children, Kenneth R. Byler and his wife, Melody, of Perkasie, Wendell L. Byler and his wife, Beth, of Wernersville, and Wanda L. Stuck and her husband, Robert, of Beaver Springs; grandchildren, Joshua Byler, Jessica Miller, Shannon Iliescu, Sherri Swinehart and Morgan Enck; two brothers, Marvin D. Byler and his wife, Anna Mary, of Centerport, and John M. Byler and his wife, Cora, of Belleville; and five great-grandchildren.

Ernest was preceded in death by a son, Fred E. Byler, and three brothers, Wilmer T., Lester S. and Thomas Byler.

From 1955 to 1957, Ernie served with 1W, in Norristown. After that, he was employed with Agway for 11 years. He then went to work at Plum Bottom Farms for 31 years before his retirement. After he retired from farming, he worked for Lester Peachey and at A. J. Peachey & Sons, in Belleville.

He enjoyed gardening and doing yard work, reading, woodworking, and most of all, spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He was a lifelong member of Locust Grove Mennonite Church, where he served as an usher and delivered tapes to shut-ins.

A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 1, 2012, at Locust Grove Mennonite Church, with Pastors Max Zook, Ivan Yoder and Mayard Beitzel officiating. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family in Locust Grove Cemetery.

A viewing will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 30, 2012, at the church.

Should friends desire, memorial contributions may be made to Locust Grove Mennonite Church, 3358 W Main St., Belleville, PA 17004, or to Sun Home Health Services, 31 E Market St., Lewistown, PA 17044.

Arrangements are under the care of Henderson Funeral Home Inc., 3813 W. Main St., Belleville.
