McALISTERVILLE - Dorothy M. Sunderland, 74, of McAlisterville, went home to be with the Lord on Nov. 24, 2012, at her daughter's home after a long and courageous battle with breast cancer.
Born Dec. 14, 1937, in McVeytown, Mifflin County, she was a daughter of the late Clarence and Ethel (Headings) Krepps. Her late husband, George L. Sunderland, whom she married on June 1, 1957, preceded her in death on April 18, 2011.
She is survived by: her daughters, Connie DelRio and her husband, Jose, of Fitchburg, Mass., Candace Sunderland and Kathy Sunderland, both of Vernon, Conn.; five grandchildren, Bryan and wife, Tara, DelRio, of Waldwick, N.J., Eric and wife, Lisa, DelRio, of Leominster, Mass., Jenna Sunderland, Dalton Sunderland and Emily Sunderland, all of Vernon, Conn.; two great-grandsons, Andrew and Matthew DelRio of Leominster, Mass.; as well as her siblings, Arlene Rhodes, Darlene Harshbarger, Sandra Bachman, Larry Krepps and Shirley Carbaugh; several nieces and nephews; and other loved ones.
Her brother, Fern Krepps, preceded her in death on Nov. 23, 1978.
Dorothy was a former member of the Rockville United Methodist Church, in Connecticut, and was a current member of Brown's United Methodist Church, Cocolamus.
Mrs. Sunderland worked at Burroughs Corporation, in Connecticut, retiring in 1988.
She enjoyed traveling the country with her beloved husband and celebrated their 50th anniversary with a trip to Alaska.
A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 1, 2012, at Brown Funeral Homes Inc., 111 Westfall St., McAlisterville, with the Rev. Ronald Landis officiating. Interment will follow in the Hillside Cemetery, McAlisterville.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 30, 2012, at the funeral home.
