LEWISTOWN -Black Friday has concluded and people were lined up outside plenty of local businesses to get deals and start holiday shopping.
The JCPenney located at 224 N. Logan Blvd., Burnham, had an estimated 200 people in line to get Black Friday deals.
"We had a huge line," store manager Jim Grant said. "We had people from our door all the way to the Weis store."
Grant said the items that were purchased a lot and early were women's scarves, men's jeans, men's flannels and pillows.
"We definitely had more traffic this year. We had long lines consistently through the day," Grant said.
Grant said they had a button promotion this year that will extend through Dec. 24. Two buttons will be given to each customer for entering the store along with a card to give directions to the website.
JCPenney is giving away 100 free vacations to different cities in the U.S., jewelry and gift cards. Customers must enter the code from the button on JCPenney's website in order to have a chance to win.
Managers from Walmart, Lowe's, Tractor Supply Company and Bon-Ton were not able to speak to a reporter without talking with their corporate office first.
A member of the Mifflin County Commons Kmart management team, who did not want to be named, said that they had more than 100 people waiting in line Thursday morning and less than 100 people Friday morning. She said the people in line were respectful of each other. Kmart held a 3-day sale which started Thursday and ends today. Electronics were the hot commodity and were off the shelves fast. Kmart did have some issues which hurt sales because one of the registers could not read some of the Rewards credit cards.
