To the editor:
On Saturday, Oct 20, Trinity United Methodist Church in Lewistown held our annual Trunk or Treat event. Trunk or Treat was started in October 2004 as an outreach program for our community. The purpose of this event was to provide safe " trick or treating" for children as well as to provide a safe environment for interaction of all age groups. This event was held annually from 2004 through and including 2009 at which time we took two years off to regroup and refresh ourselves.
This year the South Block Watch Group joined with us to bring this event back to our community. We had over 300 people attend an afternoon of crafts, games, activities, refreshments and fun. Many of the people who attended that day were not affiliated with Trinity Church and/or the watch group. For those of you who came that day I hope you had a great time and will " check us out" sometime. We welcome you with open arms.
An event like Trunk or Treat takes much planning, organization and prayer. Without the support of many businesses, organizations and people, an event like this isn't possible. Therefore, I would like to thank the following businesses and organizations for their support and/or participation: Giant Food Store Burnham, Giant Food Store Lewistown, South Side Hoagie Shop, Carousel Skating Rink, VisitingMifflinCounty.com and the Lewistown Police Department.
Also I want to say thank you to the Lewistown Borough Council and workers for allowing the alley behind the church property to be blocked off during the event. Thank you to the borough employees who delivered and pick up the barricades. This allowed the safety of our children to be maintained. Also, thank you to Allensville Planing Mill Lewistown for once again allowing us to rent the Spider Web (cotton candy) machine (always a messy but fun part of Trunk or Treat).
Thank you to the members of the South Block Watch Group as well as Pastor Kari Swigart and the entire congregation of Trinity United Methodist Church Lewistown. Your support of time, supplies, monetary donations, refreshments and prayers were very much appreciated. Thank you to all of the volunteers who gave up a Saturday afternoon to work at this event. Even though it was a lot of work I hope you had a lot of fun.
Thank you to Colby Guyer, head of the South Block Watch group and Cathy Clark, Children's Ministries coordinator of TUMC, for helping to coordinate and organize this event.
And lastly, I want to thank Terry and Becca for their enthusiasm and continued support of this event (and me). See you in 2013.
Nancy C. Zook, Chair
