Police: State trooper extinguishes engine fire

MILROY - A fire in the engine of a 2002 Hyundai Accent had to be extinguished by a Pennsylvania State Police Trooper Wednesday night, on U.S. 322 east of the Milroy on ramp, Mifflin County Regional Police report.

Police said the driver, Perry Patrick Helton Jr., said the check engine light began flashing and he pulled off the road to investigate at about 7:25 p.m.

According to the report, Helton found a fire in the engine compartment of the vehicle.

Police said there was an oil trail on the highway leading to the vehicle with a puddle of oil underneath the vehicle.

Police said Helton's vehicle had to be towed from the scene.

Mifflin County Regional Police Department was assisted at the scene by reedsville Fire Company, Milroy Fire Company, Milroy EMS and Pennsylvania State Police.
