Benjamin N. Shertzer

OAKLAND MILLS - Benjamin N. Shertzer, 55, of Oakland Mills, died at 8:50 p.m. Monday, Oct. 29, 2012, at his home.

Born March 1, 1957, in Lancaster County, he was a son of the late Benjamin H. and Lois Ruth (Hess) Shertzer, and his stepmother, Edith (Huber) Shertzer. On Nov. 25, 1978, he married his surviving wife, Ruth (Weaver) Shertzer, with whom he spent nearly 34 years of marriage.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by: three children, Eunice Yoder and her husband, Nathan, of Belleville, Nathan Shertzer and his, wife Rosanna, of McAlisterville, and Benjamin E. Shertzer, of Oakland Mills; two brothers, James Shertzer and his wife, Rachal, of Aurora, N.Y., and Jonathan Shertzer and his wife, June, of Blairs Mills; six sisters, Ruth Landis and her husband, James, of Annville, Miriam Gehman and her husband, Harry, of Thompsontown, Barbara Wenger and her husband, Omar, of Bellingham, Mass., Martha Kuhns and her husband, Adrian, of Chambersburg, Lois Shertzer, of Rochester, Wash., and Sarah Stoner and her husband, Aaron, of Guatemala; and seven grandchildren.

Four children, Carolyn Shertzer, Mervin Shertzer, Melvin Shertzer and Sharon Shertzer, and two granddaughters preceded him in death.

Mr. Shertzer was a member of the Goodwill Mennonite Church, Thompsontown, and a lifelong dairy farmer.

A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Nov. 2, 2012, at the Bunkertown Church of the Brethren, 52 Bunkertown Road, McAlisterville, with John Brubaker, David Kauffman, David Brubaker and Omar Wenger officiating. Interment will follow in the Goodwill Mennonite Cemetery, Thompsontown.

Viewing will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 1, 2012, at the Bunkertown Church of the Brethren, 52 Bunkertown Road, McAlisterville.
