Granville Township voters asked to support fire tax

October 26, 2012
Lewistown Sentinel

To the editor:

The three fire companies in Granville Township need your help. The cost of purchasing fire apparatus continues to rise every year and the fire companies cannot raise enough money with fund raising to buy fire trucks without your support. Currently a new fire engine costs from $400,000 to over $500,000.

A ballot question on the back of the November 2012 election ballot will ask Granville Township voters to support the three fire companies by increasing the fire tax by 1 percent. The average property owner will pay about $35 to $40 more per year if the tax increase is approved.

The fire companies include The Junction Fire Company in the Mifflin County Industrial Park, the Granville Fire Company in Granville and the West Granville Fire Company in Strodes Mills.

Although none of us want to raise taxes we really need your assistance.
