From staff reports , Lewistown Sentinel

BLAIRS MILLS - A Blairs Mills caretaker has been charged with neglect of a care-dependent person and involuntary manslaughter after a woman under her care was found dead in a nearby creek Wednesday morning in Tell Township, Huntingdon County, Pennsylvania State Police Huntingdon report.

Connie Ann Souders, 62, was arraigned Wednesday at Magisterial District Judge Douglas L. Gummo's office and placed in the Huntingdon County Jail in lieu of $100,000 bail.

Police said Sally Jean Fultz, 70, of Blairs Mills, one of five residents of a dependent care home, walked away from the home sometime between Tuesday night and early Wednesday morning. Fultz was both blind and suffering from dementia, police said.

Fultz was later found dead in a creek about 100 yards from the home by a neighbor, police said. Police determined that Fultz's death was a result of Souders' failure to provide the care for which she was hired.

Souders' preliminary hearing is scheduled for 12:30 p.m. on Oct. 30, police said.

A full obituary for Fultz appears on page A6 of today's edition.
