MIDDLEBURG - Carly Mill got going for Montoursville Friday. Midd-West just never got going.
Mill scored the first two goals in a 4-0 shutout by the Warriors over Midd-West in the Mustangs' final regular-season game. She gave her team a 2-0 lead 10 minutes into the game and the Warriors never looked back.
"We just didn't have our intensity there," Midd-West coach Russ Goodling said. "We got deep on the outside and they were able to get the ball baseline and either serve it or find somebody that wasn't marked."
Goodling said his team retreated when it should have attacked. Montoursville scored twice more in the second; the last goal came just before the contest was called due to a heavy fog that moved in.
The Warriors also won the JV contest.
The loss does not change Midd-West's position going into the District 4 Class AA tournament. Goodling said he expects the Mustangs (11-7, 7-7) to be the seventh seed in an eight-team bracket, and likely will play either Warrior Run, Athens or Central Columbia - a decision that could be based on the flip of a coin as all three teams have matching records.
