WESTHAMPTON, N.Y. - Donald Raymond Sr., a resident of the Westhampton Care Center in Westhampton, N.Y., died on Tuesday, Oct. 2, at the Peconic Bay Medical Center, due to complications from a stroke he suffered four years ago. He was 78.
For 16 years prior to the stroke, he lived in Lewistown, near where he was born and had grown up. Before that, he lived in Hampton Bays, N.Y., for 33 years.
A veteran of the U.S. Air Force and a retiree of Grumman Aerospace, in Calverton, Mr. Raymond was a master woodworker who enjoyed freshwater fishing. He had a very inventive mind and his workshop was crowded with prototypes of various mechanical and other devices.
He was predeceased by: a sister, Dynisha Ferguson; a brother, Byron Raymond; a niece, Mary Maguire; a nephew, Greg Maguire, all of Lewistown; and an infant son, David Paul.
He is survived by: a son, Don Raymond Jr. and his wife, Laura, of Hampton Bays; a daughter, Liz Lynch and her husband, Brian, of Phoenix, Ariz.; two grandsons, Sean and Ethan Lynch; a sister, Marean Smutna; two nieces, Shelley and Deanne Smutna, of Cleveland, Ohio; and a nephew, Chris Maguire and his wife, Patrice, of Baton Rouge, La.
Also surviving are: a niece by marriage, Kathy Weston (formerly Maguire), of Lewistown; three great-nieces, Tara Herwig and her husband, Jeremy, Erin Maguire and Kelley Maguire, all of Lewistown; four great-nephews, Matt Zaniewski, of Wisconsin, Christopher Maguire and Kyle Maguire, of Michigan, and Kristian Maguire of Louisiana; one great- grandniece, Emma Herwig; a close friend, Elaine Robb, of Lewistown; and his former wife, Jean Raymond, of Hampton Bays.
A memorial service and interment of ashes will take place in Lewistown in June.
