To the editor:
If you are looking for a job working in a coal mine that pays a fair wage, along with all the coal dust and coal gas that your lungs can inhale, then Tom Smith is your man.
However, be aware that Mr. Smith and his fellow Tea Party Republicans would do away with the non-profit, efficient government-run Social Security systems that include retirement, disability and death benefits for workers and their families.
Tom Smith supports Paul Ryan's plan to end Medicare for seniors as it is now, and he also supports Mitt Romney's plan to cut income tax rates by 20 percent, which would lower Mitt's tax bill by over $4 million.
Mitt pays less than 15 percent now, and he condemns the 47 percent of Americans who don't even earn enough money to pay federal income taxes. Many workers pay higher income tax rates than Mitt does.
Yes, Tea Party Tom Smith and Mitt Romney want you to believe that tax cuts for the rich create jobs. However, all that it does is create bigger budget deficits, raise the national debt, make the rich richer, the poor poorer and destroy the middle class that built a prosperous America in the first place.
