MIFFLINTOWN - Nora Ella Singer, 72, of Mifflintown, died at 3:42 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 7, 2012, at the Mount Nittany Medical Center, State College.
Born on Nov. 26, 1939, in Walker Township, Juniata County, she was a daughter of the late Andrew S. and Mary (Hostetler) Bashore. On Dec. 31, 1961, she married her surviving husband, Edward E. Singer, with whom she shared more then 50 years of marriage.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by: three sons, Rick B. Singer and his wife, Kathy, of Mifflintown, Lawrence L. Singer and his wife, Laurie, of Chambersburg, and Andrew E. Singer and his companion, Marty, of Mifflintown; one sister, Jane B. Marhefka, of Mifflintown; and she leaves behind 17 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

One grandson, Ben M. Singer, preceded her in death on Oct. 29, 2007.
She was a member of the Messiah Lutheran Church, Mifflintown, a member of the Walker Grange No. 786 for more than 50 years, a member and past worthy matron of the Order of the Eastern Star, Mifflin Chapter 260, past chairperson for the Juniata County Republican Party, a Republican State Committee member, a member of the Harrisburg Area Polka Club, the Juniata Mifflin Music Study Club and the Mifflin Juniata Community Concert Association.
In earlier life, she owned and operated Nora Ella's Beauty Shop, while on her family's farm. Then she was employed as the activity director at the Malta Home, Granville, after which she was the co-owner of Singer's Restaurant and Zimmies Diner, both of Mifflintown. Mrs. Singer was presently employed by the Pa. Department of Revenue, Harrisburg.
Nora Ella enjoyed visiting the people of her church as well as baking, square dancing and polka dancing.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 11, 2012, from the Brown Funeral Homes, Inc., 100 Bridge St., Mifflintown, with the Rev. William N. Esborn officiating. Interment will follow in the Westminster Presbyterian Cemetery, Mifflintown.
Viewing will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 10, 2012, at the funeral home, where Eastern Star services will be accorded by her chapter at 8:45 p.m.
