THOMPSONTOWN - A Thompsontown woman faces up to 50 years in jail and $1.5 million in fines, the U.S. Attorney's Office reports.
The U.S. Attorney's Office for the Middle District of Pennsylvania announced that Sally Arlene Berry, 56, of Thompsontown, was charged Wednesday with one count of bank fraud and two counts of passing counterfeit checks.
According to the U.S. Attorney Peter J. Smith, Berry allegedly deposited two counterfeit checks totaling almost $75,000 into a newly opened business account in the name of the Always Hope Adult Day Care, LLC and then made withdrawals of more than $42,000 before the bank discovered the checks were counterfeit.
According to the report, the case was investigated by the U.S. Postal Inspection Service and is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Daryl F. Bloom.
