Don Conner, formerly of Allensville and now of Valley View, blows out candles on his birthday cake Tuesday at the China Garden Buffet in Lewistown. Conner is a World War II veteran and a Pearl Harbor survivor. His family took him to his favorite restaurant for his 93rd birthday, where patrons joined in the celebration. Conner was stationed at Hickam Air Force Base at the time of the attack. He ran to the hangars to ready the planes, but he found them and the runways in ruins. Not knowing if the Japanese were going to return, the soldiers were sent to foxholes for 10 days with rusty shotguns and only 15 shells each.
