Officials: Explosion, fire strikes local scrapyard

Firefighers shoot water from the ladder of a fire engine after a fire broke out Friday afternoon due to a reported explosion in the scrapyard at Joe Krentzman and Son Inc., 3175 Back Maitland Road, Lewistown. Officials said there was an explosion and a fire on the property. Firefighters said a crane on the property was being used to remove scrap and to keep the fire centralized. Fire engines were filling near the East Derry Elementary School to keep the blaze under control. Fame EMS had a rehab tent set up to provide support for the firefighters. Further information was not released by presstime. Decatur Fire Company was assisted by Fame EMS, Burnham Fire Co., West Granville Fire Co., Derry Township Fire Police, East Derry Fire Co., Reedsville Fire Co., Junction Fire Co., McVeytown Fire Co., Yeagertown Fire Co., McClure Fire Co., Granville Fire Co., Milroy Hose Company, Central Juniata EMS, East Salem Fire Co., Mifflintown Hose Co., City Hook and Ladder, and Belleville Fire Co.
