Simon E. ‘Woody’ Nipple III

THOMPSONTOWN - Simon E. "Woody" Nipple III, 52, of Thompsontown (Maze), died at 9:30 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 6, 2012, at his residence.

Born on March 15, 1960, in Derry Township, Mifflin County, he is a son of Meda M. (Hutchinson) Nipple, of Thompsontown (Maze), and the late Simon E. Nipple Jr. On May 6, 1989, he married Kathleen T. (Morgan) Nipple, with whom he shared more than 23 years of marriage.

In addition to his wife and mother, he is survived by one brother, Loren A. Nipple and his wife, Mary Beth and one sister, Marilyn D. Willow and her husband, Donald, all of Thompsontown (Maze). He leaves behind three nieces and one great-nephew.

He was preceded in death by a cousin, Rhonda L. McVicker.

After attending East Juniata High School, Cocolamus, Simon worked for Pusey Losch and later worked in the maintenance department of Impact Systems, Harrisburg. Then, until 2001, he worked as the maintenance person at Meda Nipple Convalescent Home, Thompsontown.

At one time, Simon was a social member of the Wesley De Haven American Legion Post 364, Liverpool, J.E. Bowen AMVETS Post 122, Thompsontown, and the Loyal Order of the Moose 925, Millerstown.

"Woody" was an avid outdoor sportsman, who enjoyed hunting, fishing and trapping, he also loved spending time with his dogs.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 10, 2012, from the East Salem United Methodist Church, East Salem, with the Revs. Joseph N. Yorks and Robert A. Graybill officiating. Interment will follow in the Maze Cemetery.

Viewing will be held from 4 to 8 p.m., with family present from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 9, 2012 at the Brown Funeral Homes, Inc., 111 Westfall St., McAlisterville.
