McVEYTOWN - A helicopter crash claimed the life of Kenneth M. Smith, 61, of McVeytown, Saturday morning in Wayne Township, according to a release from Mifflin County Coroner Daniel Lynch's office.
The release states Smith was operating a two-passenger Safari helicopter around 9:30 a.m., when witnesses say the engine shut off and the helicopter crashed in a farm field.
Lynch said Smith was the only occupant of the helicopter. The report states he was killed on impact and Lynch pronounced him dead at the scene.
The incident is under investigation by Pennsylvania State Police Lewistown, the Federal Aviation Administration and Lynch, according to the report.
