MILROY - Donald J. Mattern, 80, of Main Street, Milroy, went to be with the Lord and beloved family that preceded him in death on Sunday, Aug. 26, 2012.
He was born Aug. 25, 1932, in Lewistown, the son of the late Palmer J. and Erma (Daubert) Mattern. Donald is survived by his wife Shirley Rhodes Mattern, who he married in 1955.
He also is survived by: children, Randy Mattern and wife Debra of Milroy and Brenda George of Reading; brother, William Mattern and wife, Mildred, of Bellefonte; sisters, Shirley Laub and husband, Erdnal, of Milroy, Beverly McCalips and husband, Albert, of Ferguson Valley and Dolli Stuter and husband, Rick, of Mifflintown; and grandchildren, Erin Mattern, of Milroy, Shannon George, of Monroeville, Jessica George, of Bellefonte, and Michael Hewett, of Reading.
Donald was preceded by: a grandson, Devin Mattern; brothers, Palmer and Harold Mattern; and a sister, Hazel Sunderland.
He was employed at Standard Steel retiring in 1988. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving in the Korean War. He was a member of the Milroy United Methodist Church.
A graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 31, at Juniata Memorial Park with the Rev. Laura M. Kyler officiating. Military honors will be by VFW Post 7011, Lewistown.
