To the editor:
On behalf of the Mifflin County Open Show Committee I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the businesses and individuals who donated gift certificates or items to the Mifflin County Open Show Benefit Auction held Aug. 11 during the Mifflin County Youth Fair. This year we raised about $13,000. The monies raised are split between the 4-H Fair Committee and the Open Show Committee. The Open Show uses its portion to improve technology development, increase premiums for Open Show entries, supplies, and general fair improvement. Without the generous support of our donors we would not be able to continue to improve the fair experience for Mifflin County.
In addition to our donors we must thank our buyers. Our buyers are great. They come out and support both the baked goods auction on Tuesday night and the benefit auction on Saturday night. We have some good natured competitive bidding back and forth which makes for a fun evening for everyone. Hopefully most everyone got something they wanted at the auction. If not, there is always next year.
Our auctioneers John Rheam, who auctioned the baked goods, and Don Chesney's team, who auctioned the benefit auction, each did a fantastic job once again. Thanks to both John and Don along with Tyler, Robin, and Karen for helping to make successful auctions. Thanks to our volunteer runners, Adam, Rachel, Loraine, and Rachelle as well.
We would also like to thank our many exhibitors who work hard all year on projects to be entered in the Open Show exhibit area. Keep up the good work and we hope to see you all next year. For anyone who has never entered an exhibit in the Open Show I hope you will consider entering next year.
Again thanks to everyone who played a role in making the 2012 Mifflin County Youth Fair a success.
