REEDSVILLE - The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation advises drivers that additional work will keep lane restrictions in place through Sept. 7 on a bridge rehabilitation project between Reedsville and Burnham.
The lane restrictions will slow travel on Penn State student "move-in" day Aug. 24, and for Penn State's first home football game on Sept. 1. Drivers are advised to allow for extra travel time to these events.
The bridge work was scheduled to be finished before move-in day but additional steel repairs and paving make it necessary to extend the time frame of the lane restrictions.
The current traffic pattern provides one lane for eastbound traffic and one lane for westbound traffic in the westbound lanes between Reedsville and Burnham. The lane width is restricted to 11 feet.
Motorists should reduce their speed and be alert for changing traffic patterns and stopped or slow-moving vehicles. Pennsylvania State Police will be on site to enhance safety through the work zone.
This work is part of a multi-year bridge rehabilitation project on U.S. 322 from Reedsville to Burnham in Derry and Brown townships and includes bridge repair, painting, drainage, and paving. Glenn O. Hawbaker Inc. of State College is the contractor on this $11.8 million job.
