LEWISTOWN - After 11 years operating out of the family home, the Bush men have opened their first retail location at 1537 Loop Road in Lewistown. The owners of Bushmen Landscaping redesigned the brick house's front yard to show customers what they are capable of, co-owner Jon Bush said.
"After working in the business for 11 years, it became too much to handle at home," Jon said. "We decided to open a retail store to offer customers the option of purchasing do-it-yourself materials or to schedule a consultation for our services."
The landscaping business began as a part-time job for Jon after being laid of at Standard Steel in 1991. After years of mowing yards and working as a handyman, Jon decided to focus on the landscaping portion of the industry along with his son, Caleb Bush.

"Eventually the landscaping end of the business was going so well, it took up the majority of our time," Jon said. "Caleb, my youngest, was taking a strong interest in it so we decided to put our focus on landscaping."
Caleb graduated from Indian Valley High School in 2009 and continued on to Mifflin Juniata Career and Technology Center where he majored in Agriculture and Landscaping. He has taken over the hardscaping aspects of the business which are projects that involve paving, such as a sidewalk or brick patio. Caleb and his father have been business partners for three years.
Bushmen Landscaping services consist of pond and water garden installation, hardscaping, fertilizing, lawn installation and repair, grounds maintenance, mowing, soil testing, fall and spring clean-up, mulching, lighting installation and weed, pest and disease control.
"Next spring we will be selling seasonal plants, mulch and landscaping items at the new retail store," Jon said.
