Will back Romney’s pick of Ryan for running mate

August 18, 2012
Lewistown Sentinel

To the editor:

Well, the decision for Mitt Romney's vice presidential nominee has been made. I applaud the decision to pick Paul Ryan.

My choice would have been Allen West but I am quite satisfied with Paul Ryan, a strong economy-minded man who would help stave off the financial disaster that would await this nation should Obama be elected to another term.

Both of these men have strong moral values especially in regard to their positions on abortion. I do not particularly favor the rather silent position of Romney on same-sex marriage but am hopeful Ryan's opposition to that would have a strong influence.

Yes, there are many who are worried about the financial solutions as presented by Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan. They have promised to work hard to stabilize our tax structure; the trade imbalance; the destruction of Social Security; the immigration problem; repeal of Obamacare and work toward a more favorable, fair and equitable health care program. This can be done without destroying the greatest health care system in the world. But it cannot be done by taxing our people into financial oblivion or increasing our national debt, a debt that now closely mimics those of many European countries that are on the verge of bankruptcy.

There will need to be made some very difficult decisions and some may well not be happy with the results. But, unless we secure our finances none of the programs that people have been promised will survive. We need to find solutions, return to a yearly submitted federal budget, preferably a balanced budget amendment, stop fraud with the only return on bailouts being a campaign donation or file for bankruptcy. Solyndra comes to mind as well as many others.

We need a team in Washington that will strengthen our Constitution, not attempt to destroy it one page at a time, especially: freedom of speech and religion; the right to bear arms; states' rights as outlined in the 10th Amendment. We need to eliminate the falsehood of hidden taxes foisted off as mandates; stop the funding of murder in the womb; fund our military for its primary purpose: the protection of this nation and not a test-tube for social constructs.

I am satisfied by Mitt's pick and will now will put his bumper sticker on my vehicle and give him my full support.
