Clair T. ‘Buck’ Bardell

MILLERSTOWN - Clair T. "Buck" Bardell, 92, of Pfoutz Valley Road, Millerstown, Delaware Township, Juniata County, died on Aug. 16, 2012, at his residence.

Born Sept. 28, 1919, in Fayette Township, Juniata County, he was a son of the late Nevin S. Sr. and Etta R. (Smith) Bardell. He married F. Ruth McKee on June 6, 1942, who preceded him in death on June 21, 1992.

He was educated at Lock School, Pfoutz Valley, and at Thompsontown High School. He also attended the University of Maryland for courses in milk testing. He served in the Civilian Public Service/Brethren Service, in Kane and Williamsport, as well as in Bel Air, Md.

Clair worked at the family-owned Echo Glen Dairy. He later owned the farm, raised Angus beef cattle and received numerous awards for outstanding conservation farming practices. He was also employed in various occupations as a carpenter, milk tester and rural mail carrier. He was a supervisor for Delaware Township for 17 years and served on several agricultural boards and committees. He also served on the East Juniata School Board and was a member of the Free Spring Church of the Brethren, in Van Wert.

He is survived by: two sons, David C. Bardell and his wife, Susan, of Millerstown, and Ashley M. Bardell and his wife, Mariann, of Millerstown; two daughters, Sharon B. Ritzman and her husband, Samuel, of Mifflintown, and Lana Boyd and her companion, Douglas Sigman, of Mountville; and many grandchildren, stepgrandchildren, great-grandchildren, stepgreat- grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, John H. Bardell, and Nevin S. Bardell Jr., and four sisters, Kathryn Beaver, Marion Long, Bernice B. Wealand and Flo E. Brofee.

A funeral service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 18, 2012, at the Brown Funeral Homes Inc., 111 Westfall St., McAlisterville, with the Rev. Terry Smith officiating. Interment will be in the Goodwill Cemetery, Bunkertown.

There will be no viewing; however, the family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until the time of service Saturday, at the funeral home.

The family will provide all funeral flowers and kindly asks that memorial contributions be made in Mr. Bardell's memory to the Goodwill Cemetery, c/o Roger Shallenberger, Treasurer, 3352 Mountain Road, McAlisterville, PA 17049.
