MIDDLEBURG - At the Midd-West School Board meeting Monday, Kay Poeth, a retired teacher, presented "Farewell to West Beaver: The Final Year."
The slideshow included over 100 pictures of West Beaver Elementary School students from the 2011-2012 school year.
In June, West Beaver closed its doors for the last time, along with Perry-West Perry Elementary School. The two Midd-West district schools joined a growing number of local schools closed and consolidated in recent years.
Superintendent Wesley Knapp thanked Poeth for her presentation and asked that the archive of photos be made available to students and parents.
"Many of the parents and kids want to treasure them for a lifetime," he said.
Also at the meeting, board members discussed whether the former elementary school buildings will be sold, leased or retained. No decision has been made.
In other business, the board approved employment of the following individuals at Middleburg Elementary School: Allison Butash, third grade long-term substitute teacher; Tammy Dietz, first grade teacher; and Lauren Spigelmyer, third grade teacher. Devin Flynt was also approved as instrumental and vocal music teacher at Midd-West Middle School.
