Geraldine Gerber, left, of McAlisterville, watches as Gertrude Kenepp, of McVeytown, releases a butterfly in memory of her father, Wilmer J. Miller. Gerber also set a butterfly free in memory of her husband,Robert E. Gerber, at the fourth annual Lewistown Home Health and Hospice: The Bridge Memorial Butterfly Release held Sunday at Lewistown Hospital. According to the event program, a Native American legend tells the butterfly’s story. Anyone with a wish must first capture a butterfly and whisper the wish to it. Since the butterfly can make no sound, it can only reveal the wish to the Great Spirit, who hears and sees all things. The Great Spirit always grants the wish, out of gratitude for the butterfly’s freedom.
