Spikes lose ground to Doubledays

August 9, 2012
From staff reports , Lewistown Sentinel

AUBURN, N.Y. - Derek Trent went deep for the first time this season to help the State College Spikes take an early lead, but the Auburn Doubledays came back to take a 5-3 decision on Thursday night at Falcon Park.

Down 2-0 after four straight two-out hits by Auburn (30-20) in the bottom of the first, State College (26-25) drew even when Trent's two-run home run on a 1-0 pitch from Ivan Pineyro (3-1) traveled over the right field wall. The Spikes catcher's long ball was the second of his State College career. Jesus Vasquez and Jared Lakind then delivered back-to-back singles to set up Jodaneli Carvajal's RBI groundout that gave the Spikes a 3-2 lead.

Auburn (30-20) would come back in the fourth inning, though. Wes Schill singled and stole second base with one out, and scored on Narciso Mesa's single one batter later to tie the game, 3-3.

The Doubledays then moved ahead in the sixth inning.
