FREEBURG - One person was pronounced dead at the scene while four others were injured as a result of a car accident Sunday afternoon in Washington Township, Snyder County, police report.
The crash occurred at 12:30 p.m. as a 1996 Nissan Quest, driven by Marcus Lehman, 72, of Mount Pleasant Mills, was traveling east on state Route 35, according to the report. Police said the vehicle left the right side of the roadway and struck a tree with the right front corner of the vehicle. The vehicle spun clockwise, traveling another nine feet before coming to rest on the road, facing south.
Four passengers were riding in the minivan with Lehman when it crashed, police said.
The report states Ferne Lehman, 72, of Mount Pleasant Mills, was pronounced dead at 1:37 p.m. at the scene.
Sharon Graybill, 61, of Mount Pleasant Mills, was taken to Geisinger Medical Center by helicopter, while Gladys Gingrich, 55, and Dale Gingrich, 56, both of Richfield, were transported to Geisinger by ambulance, police said. A nursing supervisor said Graybill and Dale Gingrich were listed in serious condition Sunday night, while Gladys Gingrich was listed in fair condition.
Marcus Lehman also was transported by ambulance to Geisinger; the nursing supervisor said he was still being treated for his injuries and a condition report could not be provided as of press time Sunday.
