James Clayton ‘Jim’ Taylor Sr.

MIFFLINTOWN - James Clayton "Jim" Taylor Sr., 88, of Mifflintown, passed away Tuesday, July 31, 2012, at his home in Rockville.

Born June 15, 1924, in Lewistown, he is the son of the late Chancey S. and Pearl N. (McCormick) Taylor Sr. His wife, Janet Marion (Leiter) Taylor, whom he had married on Oct. 25, 1947, died on Jan. 28, 1983.

He is survived by four sons: James C. Taylor Jr., of Kingsland, Ga., William A. Taylor, of Mifflintown, Carl R. Taylor, of St. Marys, Ga., and Michael A. Taylor, of Mifflintown; one daughter, Marion "Kay" (Taylor) Delancey, of Elysburg; six brothers, Jack Taylor, of McAlisterville, Chancey S. Taylor Jr., of Roulette, Robert Taylor, of Greenville, S.C., Graham Taylor, of Port Royal, David Taylor, of Hershey, and Richard Taylor, of Thompsontown; 10 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one sister, Helen (Taylor) Goshorn, two brothers, Kenneth Taylor, and Ronald Taylor, and one grandson, Mark Allen Schnelle.

Jim was a construction superintendent for John E. Groninger for more than 30 years, retiring in 1986.

Earlier in life, he enjoyed hunting and going to Michigan to fish for salmon. After his retirement, he worked in his wood shop making beautiful pieces of furniture, cabinets, tables, and anything imaginable. He had quite a gift when it came to wood working. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family.

His funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 4, 2012, at Guss Funeral Home, Inc., 20 S. Third St., Mifflintown, with the Rev. James Wooster officiating. Interment will be in Union Memorial Gardens, Mifflintown.

There will be a viewing from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, Aug. 3, at the funeral home.

The family will provide all the flowers for the service and kindly requests that contributions be made in memory of Jim to Home Nursing Agency, 129 E Main St, Suite T, Lewistown, PA 17044.
