McCLURE - Sarah May Mattern, 84, formerly of Fultz Road, passed away Sunday evening at Ohesson Manor in Lewistown.
Born Aug. 4, 1927, in Granville, she was a daughter of the late Miles and Carrie (Snook) Brindel. On July 8, 1949, she married Palmer L. Mattern, who preceded her in death on Dec. 17, 2002.
Mrs. Mattern was a 1945 graduate of Lewistown High School.
She was a member of Baker's United Methodist Church, in McClure, where she was active in Bible school, choir and also played the piano and organ for many years.
She is survived by: one son and daughter-in-law, Scott and Sara Mattern, of McClure; one daughter and son-in-law, Sheree and Barry Chesney, of Beaver Springs; three grandchildren, Natalie, Melissa and Joe; and one sister, Arlene Deamer, of Lewistown.
In addition to her husband, Sarah May was preceded in death by one daughter, Pamela Dawn Mattern, in 1950, one brother, William "Bill" Brindel, and one sister, Ruth Bubb.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 1, 2012, in Woodlawn Cemetery, in Milroy, with Pastor Mike Sigler officiating.
