McVEYTOWN - Gene L. Shumaker, 78, of 3857 U.S. Highway 522 S., McVeytown, died at 1:37 a.m. Saturday, July 28, 2012, at his home.
Born May 8, 1934, in Granville, he was the son of the late H. Wayne and Mabel (Miller) Shumaker.
He is survived by: his wife, Joyce (Myers) Shumaker, whom he married May 16, 1962; his children, Jackie Amspacker and husband, Dana, of Yeagertown, Mindy Rhodes and husband, Skip, of Lewistown, Tara Morrison and husband, Kevin, of McVeytown; 10 grandchildren; and five great-granchildren.
He is also survived by his sister, Bertha Dalton, of Seattle, Wash.
He was preceded in death by his son, Cory Shumaker, in Feb. 2012, his brother, Howard Shumaker, and his sister, Marietta Harpster.
Gene was a graduate of Lewistown High School and served in the U.S. Army from 1956 to 1958.
Early in life, he was employed at Cargill's Restaurant and was last employed at DME in Lewistown.
He was a member of the Cedar Crest Baptist Church in Mount Union.
His funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, July 31, 2012, at the Heller-Hoenstine Woodlawn Funeral Home, with the Rev. Jeffrey Winstead officiating. Interment will be in Juniata Memorial Park.
His family will recieve friends from 11:30 a.m. until the time of service at the funeral home.
