Bob B. Herbster

BEAVERTOWN - Bob B. Herbster, 87, of Route 522, went home to be with his Lord early Tuesday, July 24, 2012, at his home

Born May 4, 1925, in Middleburg, he was a son of the late Carl and Kathryn (Sanders) Herbster. On Nov. 30, 1946, he married Betty I. (Gross) Herbster, who preceded him in death on Aug. 29, 1995.

Bob attended Beaver Vocational school. After high school he served in the Navy during World War II in the Pacific Theatre.

Mr. Herbster had previously been employed at American Viscose in Lewistown and also for the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation where he retired. After retiring he drove school bus for Super Service Garage, in Beavertown.

Bob was a member of Christ Church in Beaver Springs. He was also a member of the American Legion Post 23, in Beaver Springs, and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5640, in Middleburg, and he previously served as the Spring Township supervisor.

Mr. Herbster enjoyed Penn State football and going to breakfast with the "over the hill" gang, however, the biggest love and joy of his life was his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Surviving are: one son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Patricia Herbster, of Beavertown; two grandchildren, Amber Furgison and her husband, Zane, and Angela Herbster; two great-grandchildren, Isabella and Reece; one sister, Helen Hardcastle, of Maryland; one brother and sister-in-law, Donald and Ruth Herbster, of Harrisburg; several nieces and nephews; and his caregiver with whom he was very close, Lisa Wagner.

Friends and family will be received from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday, July 27, 2012, at the Pheasant Funeral Home, 316 W. Market St., Beavertown, where the funeral will follow at 11 a.m. with Pastor Nathan Baker-Trinity officiating.

Burial with military honors will be accorded by Midd-West Honor Guard in Adamsburg cemetery.
